Eye Glasses for Vision Correction and Aesthetics

18 May

People have been using eye glasses for several years and many different types of lenses are easily available that can be used in eye glasses. The lens in eye glasses can not only be used to protect eyes but also correct any vision problems. The former forms of glasses include scissor glasses, monocle, pince-nez, and the lorgnette. Whereas, all the modern forms of glasses have included padding on the nose and temples for comfort.

Typically, eyeglasses were made of glass, however nowadays synthetic materials such as polycarbonate, plastic, and CR-39 are used to make eye glasses. The good thing about these synthetic materials is that they are very durable as well as much lighter than typical glass lenses. Other characteristics of synthetic eye glasses include filtering out ultraviolet (UV) light to protect eyes, transmitting visible light much better than glass eye glasses, and also they are long-lasting.

Today, eye glasses that are all scratch resistant are also available. These glasses have several different types of protective coatings. Among these coatings, scratch coatings and anti-reflective coatings are the most common ones. The anti-reflective coating reduces glower and works very well for night vision.

In addition, hydrophobic coatings can also be used to repel dirt and water. This enables you to clean your eye glasses easily. Also, all plastic lenses are very popular as they have coatings and are light in weight, protect against UV light, and are scratch resistant.

There are many eye glasses that are used to correct vision problems. Moreover, eye glasses can also be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Many vision problems need prescription glasses that require proper eyes examination. However, the counter reading glasses can be used over to correct very mild forms of farsightedness.

There are also several different purposes of eye glasses. For instance, safety glasses are used by many different industries to protect the eyes from chemicals or any flying debris. These safety glasses are shatter resistant and have temple shields to give protection to eyes from all directions. Safety glasses are generally used in all laboratories, the food industry, in industries that use heavy equipments such as limber, the chemical industry, and so on.

One very common and popular type of eye glasses is sun glasses. Sun glasses can be either prescriptive or non-prescriptive. Basically, they are used in bright light because they help in protecting the eyes from UV light and shield the eyes from very vivid light. The most recent and amazing form of sun glasses are photo-chromatic. Photo-chromatic lenses can darken as the amount of light increases so that when a person go outside in full sun, they turn into sun glasses but when he/she is indoors they are clear like plain eye glasses.

There are also sun glasses that have many different types of tints. For drivers, yellow sun glasses are especially useful because they can improve a person’s depth perception, reduce glower, and can also improve color contrast. Brown sun glasses are useful for golfers because they cause color distortion. Many other types of color tints are also available but they do not benefit your vision at all. Mostly, people select sun glasses tints for aesthetic purposes because they want to wear those glasses that best match with their dress, hair or eyes.
